Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Third Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours (6:30 PM - 7:00 AM) Experience: No experience required License: Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Ability to communicate and collaborate with other care team members Description: The Registered Nurse implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person. This practice focuses on creating a caring environment aimed at healing and wellness. Nursing practices are based on evidence, research, hospital policies, and professional guidelines. Clinical decision-making incorporates all four phases of the nursing process, critical thinking, and creativity. Nursing excellence is promoted through collaborative relationships among nursing staff and other disciplines. The role includes coordinating, ensuring, and providing direct patient care activities on the unit. Responsibilities encompass nursing rounds, assessments, and treatments. Facilitating admission, transfer, and discharge activities is also a key component. Providing patient and family-centered education is critical to the role. Care coordination and personalized treatment planning are part of the job. The RN performs and documents comprehensive assessments according to hospital policies. Consideration of the patient’s culture, age, and developmental level is essential. Identifying patient risk factors and gathering health information is required. Both objective and subjective data collection is part of the assessment process. The RN verifies initial assessments if performed by other team members. Establishing a prioritized problem list based on inter-professional input is important. Designing relevant actions and interventions based on the patient's needs is key. The RN determines desired outcomes in coordination with patients and families. Patient care therapies and procedures are fully implemented within the RN’s scope of practice. Explaining procedures and treatments to patients and families is necessary. The RN initiates actions to alleviate patient stress and discomfort. Recognizing and responding to changes in patient conditions is vital. Ongoing assessments and documentation are conducted according to hospital policy. The RN delegates tasks appropriately and oversees team members in patient care activities. Monitoring the accuracy and completeness of delegated tasks is part of the role. Addressing educational needs of patients regarding prioritized health issues is required. The RN facilitates the patient discharge process by executing orders in a timely manner. Assuring discharge teaching and coordination with other team members is necessary. Providing input into nurse assignments considering staffing and patient acuity is important. The RN actively participates in unit-based activities supporting organizational values. Promoting a positive group dynamic and healing environment is essential. Demonstrating nursing excellence according to accepted standards and research is expected. Actively participating in quality improvement activities and core measures is part of the role.
